I started reading him at 14, though I'm admittedly quite weird. But you're right - I first read him in an issue of the Village Voice I picked up on a class trip to NYC, in between the escort ads. It was interesting precisely because I knew the chaperones wouldn't want me reading it. Judith Butler, though - given as she doesn't even know what the friggity hell she's talking about, it'd be a little much to expect young 'uns to.
