Matt Zeitlin: Impetuous Young Whippersnapper

I’m Such A Guy

with one comment

I took the web history gender test that’s been shooting around the blogpshere, and according to their formula, there is an 100 percent chance that I’m male.

The most interesting bits of data are the proportions for websites. The way it works is that if 2/3 (2-1 male/female ratio) of a website’s viewers are male, than that site gets a 2. I guess the reason I got such a high male score was because most of the sites I visit are either sports or politics, with some news/business through in, all of  which have quite high male-female ratios. Some examples:

Drudge – 2.08

Bloomberg – 2.03

Politico 1.7

Financial Times – 2.08

Real Clear Politics – 1.82

What was a bit more interesting than Deadspin being 2.03 or Facebook and photobucket .85 and .83 respectively was that explicitly progressive and left wing political websites still tilted male. Alternet was 1.53, while The Nation was 1.44 (about the same as the Economist).

The stereotype busting outliers, or the ones that just seemed a little surprising, was the Sonic Drive In site at. 77, Gallup at .77 and barackobama.com with .68.

The most stereotype confirming, besides Deadspin, were mapquest, Gap and Converse – .83, .71, .75
